George Herbert: Poetry as Prayer with Helen Wilcox
George Herbert is widely recognised as the greatest devotional poet in the English language – but what can his exquisite lyric poems tell us about prayer?
This evening talk will explore the many images and experiences of prayer found in Herbert’s poems, and will consider the possibility that the poems themselves function as prayers.
There will be an opportunity for questions and conversation after the talk. The aim of the evening is not only to appreciate Herbert’s poetic art more fully, but also to delve more deeply into the relationships between poetry, prayer and faith.
In Centre on the evening of Wednesday 06 May 2026 from 7.30pm until 9pm
