City Prayer Group
The City Prayer Group meets every Monday night at 7.30pm in the chapel at St. Bede’s Pastoral Centre (and has done so ever since the Pastoral Centre opened in 1987).
Centering Prayer Group: CENTERING PRAYER
A twice monthly Centering Prayer morning with two prayer sessions and Lectio Divina, and an opportunity to explore the basic concepts in a supportive group setting.
Centering Prayer is based on the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 6:6. With its roots in the Christian Contemplative Tradition, it was inspired by the English classic, The Cloud of Unknowing (14th Century). It is a receptive method of silent prayer which prepares us to receive the gift of God’s presence in contemplative prayer. It was first developed by Thomas Keating OCSO and fellow Trappist monks, and is practised in over 45 countries. More information at www.contemplativeoutreach.org.uk
10.15-1pm. 05/02, 29/04, 24/06 £6 per session. Contact St Bede’s for more details.
Meetings last about an hour and a half, and include a short talk (either live or recorded), followed by 25 minutes of silent meditation. There is an opportunity for questions and discussion afterwards, as well as help with the practise of meditation when required.
Christian Meditation as practised by the early desert fathers was re-discovered by John Main and brought back into Christian living during the 1970s. The practice is supported by the World Community for
Christian Meditation and there are now groups practising this “spiritual art” all over the world!

All of us from time to time would like to be as well as we can be, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. The gentle exercises and techniques taught in these sessions are simple but effective in healing and self-care.
The sessions are led by Anne Harrison, a regular contributor at St Bede's offering spiritual accompaniment to others. Anne is qualified in therapeutic and energy work.
