The Summer 2020 Exploring Prayer course has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Please keep checking this page to see when the next course will be offered.
Our Exploring Prayer course (usually 7 sessions one per week) aims to help deepen our relationship with God by exploring prayer and ways of praying within a guiding framework rooted in Ignatian Spirituality: a spirituality which sees and experiences ‘God in All Things’.
Alongside exploring ways to settle into and reflect on our prayer experiences, topics will include : praying with Scripture; the use of art & creativity as a form of prayer; connecting with the body and the senses in prayer; and, praying through difficult times.
Sessions will include input from the leaders, time for experiencing prayer in different ways, an opportunity for individual reflection and some space for gentle sharing.
Personal and Spiritual development [PSD]
PSD is an ecumenical experiential course rooted in the Ignatian Spiritual tradition.
Aim of the Course
The key aim of the course is to support and foster greater integration between our relationship with God and the matter of our everyday life and personhood.
The course seeks to do this through a two stage process which includes opportunities for both personal and small group reflection:
in year one, we focus on developing and deepening our experience of different ways of praying alongside facilitating growth in self-awareness, personal reflection and reflective living practices
in year two, we focus on ways of responding to what is happening in our prayer and reflective practice by developing the capacity for spiritual discernment and skills in reflective decision making
The next PSD course was due to start in September 2020 but due to the situation with the Coronavirus the decision has been taken to postpone the start date. The tutors feel it is important that those taking part meet in person from the beginning, so the course will now start in January 2021.
The course will run over two academic years. Sessions will take place every week on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 until 12.20 with breaks when St Bede's is closed to the public at half terms, Christmas, Easter and for the month of August.
There will be a Taster Session on Tuesday 24th November 2020 from 10.00 until 12.20. Attendance at this will give you a good feel for the set up at St Bede’s and the opportunity to meet tutors and other potential participants in person. It is helpful to know numbers so please email email@example.com if you will be attending. If you are not able to attend the session but have questions and would like to talk to one of the tutors please get in touch using the same email address.
Booking your place
To book your place on the course you will need to complete an application form which can be downloaded here. The closing date for applications is Monday 30th November and places will be confirmed by mid December.
Costs and bursaries
The cost of the course is £160 per term. A small bursary fund (Bill Broderick Fund) is available at St Bede's to assist those in financial difficulty. Please email the office on firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
