Retreats at Whitby ... FULL!!!

Do you long for time to stop a little? Time for a retreat - for a few days, 5 days, 8 days or even longer? If so this may be for you. . .

The Retreats at Whitby are held every year over May and June.  The 2010 Retreat will be running from 26 April to 15th June, excluding 18 to 23 May. Because places are limited, priority will be given to those who have not made a retreat here before, until the end of January. After that it will be open to all, so do apply early and I will put you on the waiting list. All allocation will be on a strictly ‘first come first served’ basis. Come for what length of time suits you [up to 8 nights] but I have found that less than 2 nights is too short to be worth while. The retreat leaflet and booking form are available to download or pick up a leaflet from St Bede’s. Please contact me [by email if possible] giving your preferred dates and I will let you know if that is possible, you can then fill in your booking form.

The house is on West Cliff, Whitby, right on the sea front and there is easy access to the beach via a relatively steep paved path or by a lift that runs most days.

There is a small sheltered garden behind the house and there are basic shops just round the corner.  Whitby town is a 20  minute walk away. The house is simple as is the organisation of the retreat.  The only  fixed points are a daily (40 minute) meeting with Cecilia and a  cooked evening meal (which can be eaten when it suits you) .

The style of direction is basically Ignatian but is adapted  for each person. The house has a small private chapel.  There are churches of most denominations in the town and mass is available locally.  Each evening we will have a time of silent prayer together  in the chapel for those who wish.

Art materials and Bibles will be provided for those who wish.

Sheets and towels are provided, and there is a washing machine and iron for those who are making longer retreats.

You may find it helpful to bring warm clothes - even in summer the east wind can be very cold.  However there is a log fire in the sitting room and double glazing in many of the rooms so the house itself is usually warm.

There are good and varied walks in the locality so do bring walking shoes if you enjoy this.  Maps of the area are  available.  There is also a swimming pool nearby.
